Our 140-hour Advanced Online TEFL/TESOL course has been designed for people with little to no prior teaching experience, or teachers without a TEFL/TESOL certification who want to also gain practical online teaching experience. Whether you want to teach online or abroad, your certification will be recognized and accepted worldwide.
We’ve combined our 120-hour Standard Online TEFL/TESOL course with our 20-hour Online Teaching Practicum to create a complete 140-hour accredited TEFL/TESOL certification course.
You will be assigned a tutor for your 120-hour theoretical course and a coach for your 20-hour practicum. The 20-hour practicum component provides EFL teachers with a highly-scaffolded practical learning experience.
During the practicum, you will:
- observe six EFL teachers in both classroom and online settings using a specially-designed observation form;
- reflect on these observations, emphasizing the skills/tools/characteristics you’d like to develop in your own teaching practice;
- personally meet with your practicum coach to plan your first online lesson;
- teach a total of ten 30-minute lessons to a mix of ages and levels;
- reflect on each teaching experience, allowing for continuous improvement;
- receive professional feedback from your practicum coach, who will view and comment on one of your lessons;
- develop a personal learning program going forward
The practicum component is your entry point into the exciting TEFL profession and will provide you with the confidence and experience you need to expertly begin your TEFL career.
STANDARD 120-HOUR ONLINE TEFL/TESOL COURSE
Our 120-hour Standard Online TEFL course is the perfect starting point for your English teaching career. It has been designed for people with little to no prior teaching experience, or experienced classroom teachers without a TEFL/TESOL certification. Whether you want to teach online or abroad, your certification will be recognized and accepted worldwide.
During the course, you will learn how to teach grammar, reading, writing, and listening to speakers of other languages. You will also learn about classroom management, how to create lesson plans, and much more.

20-HOUR ONLINE TEACHING PRACTICUM
The 20-hour practicum component provides EFL teachers with a highly-scaffolded practical learning experience.
During the practicum, you will:

COURSE OUTLINE
The eTEFL Online 120-hour Standard TEFL Certification Course will provide you with the fundamental knowledge, tools, and techniques you need to become a confident EFL teacher.
In your TEFL course, you will study the following modules:
Module 1 - How to be a good teacher
What are the characteristics of good teachers? What are the different teaching roles that teachers take on? What are some of the major pedagogies used in TEFL today?
Module 4 - About English
Where did English come from and where is it going? What are the language systems and why are they important in TEFL? What are the language skills?
Module 7 - Teaching a new language
What are “language functions” and why are they important in TEFL methodology? How can they be taught? How is “vocabulary” defined in a TEFL context? What are some useful ways to introduce and practice vocabulary?
Module 10 - Teaching online
What are the major differences between teaching in traditional settings and online? What special considerations must be taken into account? What are some of the challenges of teaching online and how can EFL teachers overcome them?
Module 2 - How to manage a classroom
What are some different ways to arrange a classroom? What’s concept questioning and its role in giving instructions effectively? What are some techniques for eliciting from learners? How should teachers correct errors?
Module 5 - How to teach speaking, listening, reading, and writing
Module 8 - Evaluating and testing
What are the different kinds of assessment EFL teachers should know? What are some different ways of designing effective assessment? What are the major English language tests EFL teachers should be familiar with?
Module 11 - How to teach business English
What are some differences between teaching general and business English? What are some useful ways for EFL teaches to develop business English curricula and materials?
Module 3 - How to plan lessons
What is the importance of lesson planning? What are the stages of a well-planned lesson? What factors regarding the learners should be taken into account when lesson planning? What should teachers consider when choosing a text?
Module 6 - How to teach grammar
What does it mean to teach grammar in TEFL? What are some of the major grammar points TEFL teachers often teach? What are some useful approaches to teaching grammar?
Module 9 - How to teach young learners
What is the role of the brain in second language acquisition? How does this role affect the way young learners learn? What are some of the major differences between teaching young and adult learners?
Modules include:

Assessment is in three parts:
- two reflective essays
- two lesson plans
- multiple-choice exam
In addition, you will have access to a course manager/tutor throughout the course for any questions you might have.

The 140-hour online TEFL course is comprised of the 120-hour theoretical and 20-hour practical courses combined. It is our most complete teacher training course and will prepare you for real-world teaching.

With our TEFL/TESOL courses, you will get dedicated tutor support via email and instant chat. Our qualified tutors all have either master's degrees or doctorates in education and will be available to answer any questions you may have.
Your coach will guide you through the practicum. Once you have completed your observations and reports, they will schedule a 1-hour private coaching session with you to help you prepare for your 10 thirty-minute classes with real ESL students. Your coach will also observe you in 1 of these practice classes and give you feedback.
