Welcome to our new series of blog posts called “Meet our Community”!

Today we will be talking with eTEFL Online Teacher Training graduate, Pepi Malamoglou.

ETO – Hi Pepi, could you introduce yourself to our readers, please?

PM – Hello everyone! My name is Pepi and I live in Johannesburg South Africa. I am a native English speaker who is also proficient in Afrikaans and Greek. After graduating from university with a Bachelor of Science degree, I started working as a sales consultant in the pharmaceutical industry. I moved into management and became passionate about developing people to achieve their goals and aspirations. I believe good communication and presentation skills are essential to succeed in life.

ETO – What motivated you to want to teach English Online?

PM – After being retrenched due to Covid, I needed to earn an income from home. I love meeting new people and finding out about different cultures so I explored the option of TEFL and became certified to teach English.

ETO – When did you start your TEFL journey and how long did it take to start earning money as an online English teacher?

PM – I started a few times and eventually completed my 120 hours certificate in June 2021. I taught my first online lesson 10 weeks later and have now completed 350 hours online in 4.5 months

ETO – What were some of the challenges you faced on this journey?

PM – Setting up my profile and video and deciding on my rate for the independent platforms. Got great advice and support through the mentorship course with eTEFL Online.

ETO – What do you love most about teaching English online?

PM – Meeting people from all over the world, learning about their culture, and finding common ground. Knowing that I can help others improve their English and being able to help them achieve their business and career goals.

ETO – Would you recommend teaching English online as a career and why?

PM – If you have the desire to help others, are patient and committed, and are willing to give of yourself in time and effort, then this is a great opportunity to build a successful career.

ETO – What did you find most beneficial in your eTEFL training/coaching?

PM – The support and advice of the coach and my fellow tutors in the group.
