120-Hour Online TEFL Course Outline
Our 120-Hour Online TEFL course will provide you with the foundational knowledge, tools, and techniques you need to become a confident and effective online English teacher.
During the course, you will study the following modules:
Module 1 - How to be a good teacher
What are the characteristics of good teachers? What are the different teaching roles that teachers take on? What are some of the major pedagogies used in TEFL today?
Module 2 - How to manage a classroom
What are some different ways to arrange a classroom? What’s concept questioning and its role in giving instructions effectively? What are some techniques for eliciting from learners? How should teachers correct errors?
Module 3 - How to plan lessons
What is the importance of lesson planning? What are the stages of a well-planned lesson? What factors regarding the learners should be taken into account when lesson planning? What should teachers consider when choosing a text?
Module 4 - About English
Where did English come from and where is it going? What are the language systems and why are they important in TEFL? What are the language skills?
Module 5 - How to teach speaking, listening, reading, and writing
Module 6 - How to teach grammar
What does it mean to teach grammar in TEFL? What are some of the major grammar points TEFL teachers often teach? What are some useful approaches to teaching grammar?
Module 7 - Teaching a new language
What are “language functions” and why are they important in TEFL methodology? How can they be taught? How is “vocabulary” defined in a TEFL context? What are some useful ways to introduce and practice vocabulary?
Module 8 - Evaluating and testing
What are the different kinds of assessment EFL teachers should know? What are some different ways of designing effective assessment? What are the major English language tests EFL teachers should be familiar with?
Module 9 - How to teach young learners
What is the role of the brain in second language acquisition? How does this role affect the way young learners learn? What are some of the major differences between teaching young and adult learners?
Module 10 - Teaching online
What are the major differences between teaching in traditional settings and online? What special considerations must be taken into account? What are some of the challenges of teaching online and how can EFL teachers overcome them?
Module 11 - How to teach business English
What are some differences between teaching general and business English? What are some useful ways for EFL teaches to develop business English curricula and materials?

30-Hour Online Teaching Practicum
In this program, you will:
- build confidence and gain experience in teaching English online
- observe six ESL teachers in both classroom and online settings using a specially-designed observation form
- have a 1-on-1 meeting over Zoom with your practicum coach to train you in the online tools and software required and to plan your first online lesson
- teach a total of ten 30-minute lessons to real ESL students through our partner school program
- reflect on each teaching experience, allowing for continuous improvement
- receive professional feedback from your practicum coach, who will view and comment on one of your lessons
- develop a personal learning program going forward
- receive a letter of recommendation from our partner school to use in your job applications
- earn an accredited certificate from eTEFL Online Teacher Training
In addition, you will have access to a course manager/tutor throughout the course for any questions you might have.

The 30-Hour Online Teaching Practicum will give you the practical experience and confidence you need to teach online. After your theoretical training, you will meet with your personal coach over Zoom who will help you prepare to teach 10 thirty-minute online practice classes with real ESL students through our partner school. Upon completion, you will get a letter of recommendation from the school and an accredited certificate from us.
The 120-hour online TEFL course is the international standard for teaching English online or abroad and your foundation as an English teacher. You will learn how to manage a classroom, plan effective lessons, test, and evaluate your students, learn how to teach grammar, speaking, listening, reading, and writing. While you can study at your own pace, this course needs to be completed in 6 months from your date of enrollment and before you can start any other programs like the 30-Hour Online Teaching Practicum. Your accredited 120-hour TEFL certificate will be accepted for both online and in-class teaching positions.
The 120-hour self-study online TEFL course is the international standard for teaching English online or abroad and your foundation as an English teacher. You will learn how to manage a classroom, plan effective lessons, test, and evaluate your students, learn how to teach grammar, speaking, listening, reading, and writing. There are no tutor-graded assignments and limited tutor support and while you can study at your own pace, this course needs to be completed in 3 months from your date of enrollment. Your accredited 120-hour TEFL certificate will be accepted for both online and in-class teaching positions.
The 150-hour online TEFL course is comprised of the 120-hour theoretical course and 30 hours of practical online teacher training. You will have personalized coaching over Zoom with your tutor, learn how to use online teaching tools, and teach 10 online practice classes with real students through our online partner school. It is our most complete teacher training course and will prepare you for real-world teaching.
Our fully stocked and ever-growing resource library contains over 100 done-for-you lesson plans, links to video tutorials, specialist training courses, job links, downloadable resources, and much more.
As this course is self-study, you will have limited tutor support. However, if you need any assistance you will have access to email support.

To make the most of your online teaching career, we recommend that you apply for positions with online schools and start building up a private student base at the same time. To get private students, you need to market your services online (we’ll show you how to do this in the PATH program) and we’ll give you an initial boost by helping you choose a niche and promoting you through our social media channels with over 25 000 followers.
After completing your training, you will become part of our Online Teacher Community groups on Facebook and WhatsApp. Here we will provide lifetime support and you will have a supportive network of other teachers, ask any questions of our support staff or course managers, and help other teachers in return.
While you can work through the course at your own pace, there is a time limit for completion. Our 120-hour TEFL course with tutor-graded assignments has a limit of 6 months. However, the average candidate can complete the 120-hour course in around 3 to 6 weeks of part-time study. If you need more time, extensions are available for a small fee.

You will have 6 months to complete the 120-hour online TEFL course with tutor-graded assignments. Once you received your certificate, you may begin with the 30-hour Online Teacher Practicum and receive a further 6 months for a total of 1 year of access. If you need more time, extensions are available for a small fee.
You will be assigned a tutor to provide support via email. You will also be required to complete assignments that your tutor will grade and provide feedback on.
As this is a self-study course, you will have limited tutor support. However, should you require assistance, you will have access to general email support.
