FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

I don’t have a teaching qualification. Can I still do this?

Yes. We will provide you with an accredited 120-hour or 150-hour certificate upon completion of your course. This is the international standard for teaching online and face-to-face and will prepare you to teach English effectively to speakers of foreign languages.

Do I need a degree to tutor English online?

No. However, having a degree will certainly open more doors for you as some online schools require one. There are many others that don’t, but you may have to accept a lower hourly rate. There are other options though such as working freelance or even starting your own online teaching business. We can assist you with whichever option you choose.

How much can I earn?

Hourly rates vary from company to company and also depend on your qualifications and experience. We’ve seen everything from $5/hour to $50/hour.

Here is a simulation:

Let’s assume you only get $10/hour and only work part-time, say 3 hours per day.

$10 x 3 = $30/day

And let’s assume you work 20 days a month.

$30 x 20 = $600/month, part-time.

If you earned $50/hour, you could earn $3000/month part-time.
If you worked full-time, you could earn up to $6000/month.

Is there an age limit?

Not officially, some online schools prefer younger teachers but others don’t. Our Online Teacher Bundles include support for freelancing which will help you get your own students, teach what you want to, set your own rates, and bypass the schools altogether if you prefer.

Is there a payment plan?

We do not offer a payment plan at this time.

Are your courses accredited?

Yes, they are. OTTSA is a UK accreditation body that specializes in the moderation and accreditation of online TEFL courses. Your certificate will be recognized and accepted globally by employers, recruiters, and government agencies. You can check our accreditation status here.

We are also accredited by the Continuing Professional Development(CPD) group. You can check our accreditation status with the CPD group here CPD Accreditation Status (centre number 778743)

How do I get started?

Your first step is to enroll in one of our Online Teacher Bundles.

You can pay in your preferred currency with your debit or credit card or with PayPal.

The currency will default to your local currency automatically. If not, it will when you choose your country on the checkout page.

What will I learn in the TEFL course?

Our TEFL course is designed to give fluent speakers of English with or without teaching experience the foundation to teach English as a second or foreign language.

You can see a breakdown of the course contents by clicking here.

What is TEFL/TESOL?

TEFL stands for Teaching English as a Foreign Language and TESOL stands for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. These acronyms are used interchangeably in different parts of the world and are the international standards for tutoring English online or face to face. The course is designed for those who have no experience teaching a new language and will prepare you to teach English to students who don’t already know the language.

How, exactly, do I tutor English online?

Please visit our Teaching English Online page HERE and have a look at our blog section where we have several posts about what your responsibilities will be and how online classes are taught. Click HERE to read them.

Can I work full-time or part-time?

Both. When you start out with your first online job you will almost certainly be given part-time hours until you gain more experience. Our Online Teacher Bundles are designed to give you the skills and tools to work for both online schools and for yourself so you decide how many hours you want to work.

Will eTEFL Online help find me an online tutoring job?

Yes. We work with various recruiters who prioritise our applications, and help you get your own students as a freelancer. You’ll also have access to our teacher’s resource library with useful links to apply for jobs, training videos, videos on how to teach certain areas of English Grammar or pronunciation and done-for-you lesson plans to help get you started.

What is the price in my currency?

We accept EUR and ZAR. You can also convert to any currency here.

Who provides the certification courses?

We have created our own accredited 120-hour and 150-hour online TEFL courses with Dr. Daniel Portman through our course department eTEFL Courses. Daniel has a doctorate in Education specializing in applied linguistics and has over 20 years of experience teaching TEFL at university level and in creating courses. We are so fortunate to have him and his tutors on our team.

Our 120-hour TEFL/TESOL course has a limit of 6 months and our 150-hour TEFL/TESOL course has a limit of 12 months from the date of enrollment. However, the average candidate can complete the 120-hour course in around 3 to 6 weeks of part-time study or around 6 to 10 weeks for the 150-hour course. If you need more time, extensions are available for a small fee. (See our Terms and Conditions)
